El Rollo puts surf music through the blender and turns up the heat to serve up a scorching guitar-soaked take (with a slight twist of swamp and psychedelia) on one of rock’s most loveable genres. El Rollo take their cue from surf bands around the world. These include Langhorns from Sweden, Los Javelin from Venezuela, Messer Chupps from Russia, Surfer Joe from Italy and Los Straightjackets from the US. Their original tunes are an intoxicating rocked up, reverb-drenched brew of Balkan, Middle Eastern, Latin and Californian sounds and rhythms the head and feet find hard to ignore.

El Rollo are:

Sara Beale – saxophones – attended The University of Melbourne completing a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Teaching and a Master of Music majoring in Performance. Sara has performed at the World Saxophone Congress in the U.S.A. She has recently performed with The Melbourne Saxophone Ensemble, Orchestra Victoria, CSQ and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Mark Finsterer – guitar – composer, teacher jazz performer who has written for film, theatre, art installations and studied composition with Maestro Franco Donatoni in Sienna, Italy

Gazza Charles – drums – a strong background in blues including with the Blues Sheiks and Oozin’ Blues and more recently with the Van Morrison Tribute band.

Ross Farnell – bass – member of Beargarden, a much-loved 80s indie pop band that had meteoric success and an equally spectacular implosion that served as the inspiration for the classic Aussie movie Dogs In Space starring Michael Hutchence. Ross has since played in bands fronted by Brian Mannix, Mick Pealing and Tottie Goldsmith.

Doc White – guitar, vocals – an award-winning songwriter, composer and actor was a mostly a blues and roots artist plying his trade around the country for nearly 40 years until the call of surf sounds could no longer be ignored. Doc has fronted bands featuring Paul Williamson, Broderick Smith and Steve Williams.
